Spain and other eight European Union countries have agreed to send patrols to the countries of origin of the boats of African immigrants heading towards Europe, mainly to the Canary Islands. It has been agreed that the surveillance is performed by five patrol boats, five helicopters, a support plane, liaison officers and the corresponding crews.
Surveillance will be performed mainly in Senegal, Mauritania and Cape Verde (to a lesser extent for Cape Verde).
The States that have agreed on the creation of this security plan are Austria, Finland, France, Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany and Greece.
